Hey guys,

I never post non-tortoise related posts here but I thought I’d share this funny story with you all..

That last video post was flagged by Tumblr for sexually explicit content. I had to appeal to get it back. I have no idea why but hey, I guess Turtles and Tortoises are too sexy for tumblr. Don’t show them any of those leggies we’ve shared here in the past.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

I never thought I’d see a more displeased emotion on a Turtle/Tortoise’s face

Zoya is full of surprises! hahaha She is REALLY annoyed. You can see why I always do her bidding.. if side eyes could kill I’d be afraid for my life.

Unfortunately, it’s the only safe place for her right now.  She needs to have her lamp and to stay warm.  I promised her a kingdom by tonight. I’m hoping that makes up for it (probably not.. teenagers really like to hold grudges).

This kale sucks! I tried it from every angle.. whatever humans. #BrunchIsFor2LeggedPeople

reblogging to add: I generally assume we can separate cute videos on the internet from reality, but just in case: Don’t feed your tortoise pancakes. They aren’t good for them. Videos of mashed potato eating torts? thats banana. Enjoy the cute and stick with a healthy tortie diet 🙂 KTHX

Hey guys! Humom has been crazy busy dealing with all the snow, making sure my substrate is ok, having a toothache, and generally being slower than some people (no! She’s not a tortoise .. gaw stereotype…its her chronic illness!)  I’ve been doing great supervising from a warm snuggly location. Anyway, She’s been working hard to get some asks in order and this coming week we’re answering a TON of em! I’m even demonstrating step by step in one!! Thanks for your patience!

The Turtle Rescue of Long Island

tort-time:

Today’s Featured Organization is The Turtle Rescue of Long Island!
This organization holds a very special place in my heart. I was lucky to find them when Zoya came into my life and I was searching for good care information. The Turtle Rescue of Long Island’s website and mailing lists (Yahoo Russian Tortoise list & the rescues list) provide a wealth of resources for proper care of turtles and tortoises.
More over, they have rescued, rehabbed, and released (or adopted out) thousands sick, injured or unwanted turtles and tortoises. They maintain a serious application process for their adoptions that ensure all their adopted animals are going to loving homes that can provide them with long term quality care and those who cannot be adopted out become permanent residents. The video above shows some of the many.
The demand for turtle and tortoise rehab has only increased over time, as have the numbers of abandoned animals. With that comes increased electricity costs, space needs, and maintenance. Run out of long island, the environmental needs are even larger during the winter time.
Take some time to read about their work and consider making giving if you can. Every penny helps! Read Scooters Story: http://www.turtlerescues.org/scooter.htm a special turtle that made a particularly large impact on everyone’s hearts. Check out their facebook page and give them a like!
How to Help!
Turtle Rescue of Long Island is a non profit organization that has been taking in sick, injured and unwanted pet and native turtles and tortoises for well over ten years. Thousands have come through our doors and been rehabbed and released or adopted to new homes. One of our biggest burdens is the cost of electric to keep filters, heat lamps and heaters going to keep all the turtles and tortoises healthy. We really want to continue this work and hope with the help of our TRLI friends we can raise enough funds to get our roof reinforced and have solar power installed so we can continue for many more years.

Buy a bottle of wine! -you can choose the type of wine or the type of turtle/tortoise! Makes a great holiday gift!
Turtle Rescue of Long Island is a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue that became incorporated in 2004. We do our best to place all the turtles and tortoises which can no longer be kept for whatever reason that are brought to us. Many people buy a turtle or tortoise and know very little about their care and don’t realize how large or how long turtles and tortoises can live with proper care. Others just find they can no longer care for their turtle or tortoise and just want to find it a good home. Whichever the case, we hope to help find good homes for those that need them.
We also take in many native and non-native chelonians for rehabilitation. There are cases that can be anything from hit by car, illness, cruelty cases, neglect and abandoned.  Whenever possible all native wildlife is returned to the wild as they should be. Most others are adopted to permanent homes.

Shello friends! Human has been in the hospital and hasn’t been able to respond to the recent asks she received! Soon she’ll be back and catching up. Don’t you worry.

Its no fun without her playing paparazzi while I strike a pose. Luckily auntie D sent this awesome stuffed tortoise so she doesn’t get lonely without me, his name is Backup! heehee Always bring backup. Silly hospital not letting Tortoises visit.

She should be back soon and will get back to asks and our yearly World Turtle Day celebration!!

<3 Zoya Pants

Its been a crazy month here at Tort-time headquarters! humom has been at the doctors all the time, its even less fun than when she was at jury duty! She may have been late a couple times but don’t worry, noms arrived in a fairly timely manner almost every day. Then she had to go to NY for me cause the bus is lame and doesn’t allow tortoises. I got SUPER COOL PRESENTS! We’re gonna post those tomorrow in honor of the final episode of our favorite show #Psych. We’re getting back into the groove and apologize we haven’t been here to answer asks! This weekend humom has a seminar and takes a reptile rehabilitator exam! She says I inspired it. I would rather her to give me extra noms but I guess thats ok. After that we will be back with some super fun stuff (a turtpocalypse video game anyone?!). Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to give your shell some love.

Two weeks ago, Tort-Time sent us a package of AWESOME! Zoya and her humom sent us a lovely card, a Tort-Time pin, a chocolate to distract our human, and lots of Turtpocalypse gear! Humans of the world, watch out: The Turtpocalypse is coming!

Best of all, Kirby and I both got monogrammed super-tortle capes!! My cape makes me feel safe and lets me survey my kingdom in cozy secrecy. Kirby hasn’t quite figured out how to wear his properly, but he can now escape from his bath in style!

Look at those two sporting their supershell capes! *Melts*

Lunch box and Kirby, a fine example of the two sides of the Turtpocalypse… the quiet but fierce side eye and the all systems go trouble on the move approach. Different methods, same goal…. reminding you who is really in charge <3
