Our last Featured Organization is The Tiger Frances Foundation! @TigerFrances

An organization built out of pure love, The Tiger Frances Foundation rescues retrains and rehomes abused and abandoned animals. They don’t see these animals as lost causes, they see a need for love and care and seek to provide the animals with future filled with the same!

Recently, they have acquired their own dedicated foster house, providing the animals with 24-hour care and room to play. They have also recently launched the incredible Love on Paws program!

“The mission of LOP is to foster empathy, compassion, self-confidence, and responsibility in at-risk youth by bringing the rescue animals we foster into the school room. In a free-form session guided by the input and needs of the teacher or mentor, the students interact with the pets, learning their rescue stories and the hardships they have overcome, caring for them, even reading to them. “ Read more about Love on Paws.

From ears Mortimer (the cutest pup in the land) to Jessie the Turtle, and most recently Princess Buttercup the Iguana, The Tiger Frances Foundation works to rescue all types of animals in need and spread the love they bring with them.

ABOUT TIGER FRANCES (From their website)The Tiger Frances Foundation is a non-profit 501©(3) organization.  Our purpose is to eliminate the abuse of animals.  We believe that animals are the world’s purest embodiment of unconditional love.  Yet this very nature makes them the target for abuse.  Many animals suffering in undesirable situations and shelters are deemed unadoptable. We disagree. More often that not, these animals just need a little more time, a little more patience, and a little more love. Our work has proved this.TTFF will provide a safe haven of love and support for animals in need. With your help, we will educate and promote our philosophy and experiences through publications, products, public programs, and politics. We want to be the pebble in the pond, the first action that inspires ripples of kindness and love.Love changes everything.

That’s a mission we sure can get behind. Make a donation! Every penny counts.

A message from Spieth the green sea turtle to his name sake, Jordan Spieth!

So exciting to see this little one doing so well and his name sake too! Hopefully they’ll meet when flipperd Spieth makes his way back to his home in the water.

From the The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center Facebook page:

Hello! Spieth here, checking in to say hello and to show off how beautiful I am looking. I was so sick when I checked in at The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. I was just about on my last flipper. I was so relieved to be rescued! I really don’t know how much longer I could have lasted. It was great to have all the folks at the hospital telling me how beautiful I was and that they were going to help me get well but I knew the real story…that I was pretty pitiful looking with lots of stuff growing on my shell, my scutes coming off, lots of sores and I was sooo skinny. I tried my best to show the folks at the hospital that I wanted to get well and that I was going to fight for this chance at life. As they fed me, gave me my baths, and treated my wounds I heard them talking about a golfer who had just won the the Augusta Masters. They were saying that he had some ties to Topsail Island and that his grandfather lived in nearby Hampstead. Then the best part of all was they talked about him winning a special green coat. I perked up at that. After all I am a green sea turtle. Then they said his name is Jordan Spieth and that he is really a good golfer, that he always strives to do his best, and that he is a fine and respected person. I bet that grandfather helped him be that way and I know his grandfather is really proud. Then came the very very best moment. Somebody said “I know what we can name this little turtle. Spieth! Spieth in honor of Jordan Spieth.” If I hadn’t been so sick and weak at the time I would have clapped my flippers. I really liked that name. Now that I am feeling better I have heard that my namesake is a contender for the Grand Slam. If I was really well I might try to swim across the sea and turn up to wish him well but since I can’t I thought I would come on this Facebook page in the hope that someone will give him a message for me. I want him to know that I have my flippers crossed and that I hope he wins. But the most important thing is that he is already a winner to all his fans like me. I have heard some whispers that his grandfather will be invited to help me go back home when I am cleared for release. I am really excited about that! Good luck Jordan Spieth….and no matter what happens, just keep swimming!

PS..I wonder if that Masters thing has green coats that will fit a sea turtle.

This is Kyle, age 7. She and her family were enjoying some time on the beach near Cape Town, South Africa when she found a baby loggerhead sea turtle on a rock looking limp. She alerted her family who sought help from locals. They directed the family to the local harbor staff, but no one was there to help. Kyle and her sister jade were determined to get their new found friend, that they named Rosie, got “to the turtle doctor”.  So the family called the National Sea Research Institute who, after verifying that Rosie was not willing to go back in the water,  were asked to bring the turtle to their facility in cape town.

Turns out Rosie was not alone. While she is notably the southern most stranding they had seen, she joined 178 other baby loggerhead sea turtles being cared for by the facility, most they have ever had. While the turtles normally go with the warmer currents that flow from their hatching place, stormy weather washed them into cold waters that they then tried to escape.

Thanks to the family’s efforts, Rosie is doing much better.  She and her new friends will be flown back to their hatching place to be released when the weather is better.

High five to go Kyle and Family for not giving up on Rosie.

Tortoise’s think 3D Printing is Cool Too!

We know that pyramiding is an indicator of a diet with far too much protein, insufficient UVB, and overall poor husbandry over a long period of time. But what about how it affects a tortoise’s ability to maintain itself physically, ability to right itself if turned over, or to encounter another animal/structure/tortoise without harm to its shell? Well, Cleopatra the leopard tortoise has shown us what can happen in these scenarios.

After being rescued from a neglectful home, with severe pyramiding, her new home exposed the problems that can occur despite being provided with the proper diet and lighting.Interacting with other tortoises left her with a shell rubbed through, like open wounds in places.

With the help of some smart, caring, people and the magic of the 3D printer, Cleopatra was given a prosthetic shell! Designed by a student at Colorado Technical University, the shell will allow her to heal from these wounds, and recover from over time. it will hopefully allow her the ability to grow a strong shell like her new friends.

Why TSA needs a new Truck?

TSA staff and volunteers are hard at work at our new Turtle Survival Center (TSC) in South Carolina. In just six months, the team has moved 20 tons of sand, 30 tons of gravel, 60 tons of soil and built more than 6,300 square feet of enclosures – that’s a lot of heavy lifting! One of the critical needs at the TSC is a truck to help transport dirt, construction materials, people and even turtles. Turtles? Yes, turtles! Did you know that turtles and tortoises have quietly become the most endangered group of vertebrates in the world, with more than half of all species threatened with extinction? This is why we established the Turtle Survival Center and are working hard to transform it into a world-class turtle breeding facility. Our goal is to help prevent the extinction of animals that have very little chance of surviving in the wild due to poaching, habitat loss and other threats. To reach that goal, we need a truck!
