I was passed along these pictures of an incredible discovery my friend’s mother in law made while doing yard work last week!

She “was very gingerly raking up this old pile of leaves because it appeared to be a perfect place to find a snake…however I found this little chap…”

This Eastern Box Turtle has such an incredible shell and gorgeous markings all over. Look at those eyes?! This little guy really is a beauty. 

I’m sure he was also somewhat baffled to encounter a human, while hiding in a pile of leaves, but clearly willing to give a little look at his new temporary friend. What an amazing creature to have roaming around your home (definitely better than any snakes.. but I’m biased and oddly afraid of snakes so don’t judge! )
