Zoya has been practicing her spot kicks so she’s ready for tomorrow’s semifinals.  I don’t have the heart to tell her that she isn’t actually playing in the women’s world cup. I just let her believe she’s her goals count (especially if she gets the ball in her water bowl). It keeps her dreaming big.

GO TEAM USA!! (sorry UK friends.. )

Another update from Corbie the psych Tortoise! He predicts England will win against Croatia today!

We have to tell you, Corbie, we really hope you’re wrong! Humom is part Croatian and we are rooting for them to go all the way!

One of us will be getting lots of celebratory world cup noms today! One way or another it’ll be a WIN for the Turtlpocalypse!

well this is just sad now,,, i feel betrayed

Noo! don’t feel betrayed! We really were supporting England and Corbie! We just didn’t think we would get this far! It was a great match and Corbie’s magical powers are very real. Perhaps two tortie powers combined just caused psychic splosion!

And we sent corbie a message a bit ago. This nom is dedicated to him and all English shells!

We love you, Corbie! Zoya predicts you will continue to awe the world with your psychic powers! (could you please predict a win for Croatia? We know its a long shot but we figured we’d ask … France is so good we need all the help we can get!)

Meet Corbiere, aka Corbie, the psychic Tortoise that has predicted the results of every England game in the World Cup so far!

He didn’t have a lot to say when given the microphone but later shared his prediction for today’s game… another good outcome for England.. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see!

Either way, nice work corbie! Your psychic skills and encourage your humans to give you yummy flower treats for every World Cup game! Genius!

I’ll be rooting for England just so you get another chance to nom your predictions! 😂🙌

Zoya has dreamt of playing in the world cup since she was a tiny tort! She’s been working on her goalie skills and toughening up her headbutt by sliding off the top of her log and faceplanting in the dirt below. I’m trying to be supportive so I yell “GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLL” every time she lands.

Anonymous:

It’s Vamos not Vamanos.

Hey anon! Well you are absolutely correct! My spanish, despite being the child of a spanish household, is not perfect at all, so Zoya’s isn’t either. I’m a bad teacher!

I always thought ‘Vamanos’ was used in a more future/ full goal sense.. like lets get this and go win the world cup, as opposed to just this game.. but again.. not perfect! I’ll explain this to Zoya so she doesn’t learn the wrong words from me 😀 Thanks for the heads up and thanks for reading!

Edited to Add: Zoya’s auntie wholegrainlofat made a very good point: Maybe vamonos is what you say to your ungrateful American born child?

Zoya is playing along with this #WorldCup Semi Final!  ¡Vamos Argentina!

(Thanks for the heads up anon!)

Fun fact: Zoya’s grandma was born in Buenos Aires and had an argentine tortoise from age 5-21. Her name was Colita and stories of her awesomeness were passed down from grandma, to humom, to Zoya pants.

A late #ThrowBackThursday (well Friday now) #WorldCup edition!

4 years ago, while living in Surrey, UK, Zoya got swept up in the #WorldCup excitement.

She was quite skilled with the ball, but there were some issues when it comes to hands and tortoises. She felt FIFA rules were unfair when it comes to tortoises (They’re all feet!)

I tried to make her feel better by yelling GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLL every time she got the ball in her log.
