audiogeography:

I would like to formally introduce everyone Forrest Stumps.

Forrest Stumps is a Male Wood Turtle, approximately 10 years of age.Forrest Stumps is obviously missing his front limbs, but that doesn’t hinder him, since he would barely hold still for photos. He’s obviously eating, since he crapped all over.

Mr. Stumps was going to go to rehab, but he told us he doesn’t have a problem. It will be interesting to see if we run into him a few more times this year and find out what he’s been up to.

fortheloveofherpetology:

North American Wood Turtle (Glyptemys insculpta)

  • Inhabits the Great Lakes region as far as eastern Minnesota, through the northern Appalachians to northern Virginia, and up to Nova Scotia
  • Can live more than 40 years
  • When hunting worms the wood turtle will thump the ground to make worms think it’s raining, which causes them to come up out of the ground to be eaten
  • Classified as Endangered on the IUCN red list
