3 month old Red Footed Tortoise. Even at this young age it is still possible to differentiate between the very similar Yellow Footed tortoise. Reds have a broken up prefrontal scale, yellows have two elongated scales. I remember it by thinking about the two long L’s in “yellow”. Young reds have non-denticulated first marginal scutes while yellows have denticules (think vampire teeth like points). There are a few other identifiers but they are more difficult to assess in juveniles.

We can’t forget to wish Tortellini a happy 1st hatch day!

it’s a little late but we like to keep the celebration going!

I love how we tort and turt humans have that mix of awe and nervousness as we watch our shell babies get into all sorts of trouble. “My baby can do anything…oh god.. MY BABY CAN DO ANYTHING!ACK!”

Tortoises are little shits who will go and hide under plants and blend in very well and give you heart attacks when you can’t find them and then when you do find them they refuse to move even though you just want to feed them dinner.
