Zoya doesn’t feel strongly about this super bowl, so she’s watching highlights of the #49ers season, especially @SammyKaep7 ‘s dad (her fav). Humom is wondering what kind of NE er she raised. Go Patriots, Zoya! Patriots!

None of this matters? oh. right.

Elgordo, an ornate wood turtle from Saginaw children’s zoo, predicts a win for the Denver Broncos during today’s super bowl. A weasel named Bootie, however, shows his support for the Seattle Seahawks! Who will it be?

SAGINAW, MI — As football fans pick sides for Super Bowl XLVIII, the animals inside Saginaw’s Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square are also dividing into separate camps.

On a quiet winter day Friday, Jan. 31, at the zoo, 1730 S. Washington, a turtle and an otter went separate ways on their “predictions” of who will win Sunday’s big game.

Elgordo, a Central American ornate wood turtle, was placed near two paper bags displaying the team logos of the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks.

“It’s a no-brainer,” said Lizzy Schultz, an education and project specialist for the zoo, as Elgordo made her way straight into the Bronco’s bag.

Schultz and other staff members explained that the turtles and tortoises are fans of hiding in paper bags.

Education and project specialist Heidi Workman, whose artwork can be seen on the windows of the zoo’s gift shop, painted the team logos on the bags with non-toxic paint.

After Elgordo was done making her prediction, the bags were each filled with a single fish and transferred to the snow-covered habitat of Bootie, a North American river otter.

Bootie showed off a little before sticking her head inside the Seahawks bag and gobbling up the fish inside, marking her vote for the Seattle team.

“She’s definitely a Seahawks fan,” said Schultz.

Bootie misses interacting with visitors, according to staff, as the zoo shut its doors for the season in October and won’t open for the 2014 season until March 29.

Despite that, the otter does have some fun with the snow, as she likes to stomp it down and slide on it belly-first.

If you want to see whether Elgordo or Bootie made the correct prediction, tune in to Super Bowl XLVIII starting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 on FOX.

Silly Kaepernick putting his helmet on Sammy! Don’t you know he’s got a permanent helmet? He’s probably as anxious to avoid a tackle as you and your teammates are

We here are tort-time are trying not to focus on the article itself (SHAME on you USA today! ) and instead focus on how awesome Sammy is. Unlike USA today and the commenters on the San Francisco Chronicle article, we think its awesome that 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has a pet tortoise.  I bet he’s got a nice yard to graze and love that Kaepernick shared his love for his tortoise with the media.

Don’t listen to those journalists, this isn’t a fad.. owning a tortoise or turtle takes effort, and these animals are just as worthy of attention as any of your celebs/athletes cats or dogs.
