North American Wood Turtle (Glyptemys insculpta)

  • Inhabits the Great Lakes region as far as eastern Minnesota, through the northern Appalachians to northern Virginia, and up to Nova Scotia
  • Can live more than 40 years
  • When hunting worms the wood turtle will thump the ground to make worms think it’s raining, which causes them to come up out of the ground to be eaten
  • Classified as Endangered on the IUCN red list

I ask myself this too but then I remember that the naughtiness is pretty much what I love most about them (or her in my case.. though I can easily include a certain ennui filled cat that I love as though he were my own)
