Hey! So, first of all I love your blog. I’m a huge fan of tortoises. Secondly, I saw a picture of Zoya wearing a sweater. My girlfriend and I decided to knit our little Russian tortoise a sweater about a year ago, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. She’s wondering if you used any sort of pattern like maybe a hat pattern or just started making it. If you could let me know that’d be great. Thanks! -Jonathan

Oh man! thanks so much! This is very exciting. You should definitely get your knit on. Zoya really seemed to love her sweater. To be honest, however, I didn’t use a pattern. I tried to create one originally that would allow me to put a heat pack in the top part for those cold winter days.. well.. that didn’t work out too well. I recommend finding a hat pattern that generally ads on one or two by row and measure your tortie shell so you’ll know when you’re about the right side. Then, when getting close to the end of the final round row, knit 4-5 stitch rows until it makes it to the other side. Remember most yarn will stretch so you don’t have to be too accurate. as for the beginning it sounds strange but if you find a pattern for a Yam-aka (especially for a child) it works perfectly 🙂

Oh also I crochet more than knit so I hope this makes sense.

Good luck! Thanks so much for writing! and please send us a pic of your sweatered friend! hee
