North American Wood Turtle (Glyptemys insculpta)
- Inhabits the Great Lakes region as far as eastern Minnesota, through the northern Appalachians to northern Virginia, and up to Nova Scotia
- Can live more than 40 years
- When hunting worms the wood turtle will thump the ground to make worms think it’s raining, which causes them to come up out of the ground to be eaten
- Classified as Endangered on the IUCN red list
